2010 Edition

The first edition of the Grand Labo du CRCHUM was an unqualified success and raised close to $500,000 to support CRCHUM research activities. Our featured guest was Professor Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, the 2008 laureate of the Nobel Prize in medicine.

Invited Nobel Laureate

Professor Françoise Barré-Sinoussi
Awarded the Nobel Prize in 2008, Professor Barré-Sinoussi is the Director of the Retroviral Infections Unit at the Pasteur Institute in Paris. Active in retrovirology research since the 1970s, she is recognized for her contributions to our understanding of HIV-AIDS. She was the first author on the publication that announced the discovery of the virus responsible for AIDS (HIV). She is also active in promoting interactions between the HIV-AIDS research community and public health organizations in developing countries. She was inducted into France’s Academy of Science in January 2009. Professor Barré-Sinoussi has also received numerous national and international awards for her research. She was recently named Commandeure de la Légion d’Honneur, one of France’s highest distinctions.
